Citizens beating the chilling whether, gathered on the road to set a new record for the number of marathon runners. 91,909 participants registered and a new record was set.


Aurangabad, January 7, 2018: People of Baroda have set a new record for the number of registrations in Vadodara Marathon. The roads of the city were excellently handled by the police officials and the participants were cheered very well by the crowd who were present to spectate the event.



The Vadodara Marathon 2018 was very well organised and received a great co-ordination from the police officials, Vadodara Municipal Corporation and the people as well. Length of Full Marathon was 42.195 km long and Half Marathon was 21.098 km long. Along with this, a 5 km Marathon was also set for young aspirants. People of almost all the age groups were found as participants and cheerers as well. Many schools and colleges also participated in the event. Not only normal aspirants but also handicapped aspirants were found in the event which gradually increased the amount of energy of the event.



The roads were very well controlled and the condition of the roads were improvised and made in their best condition for the participants to run without any obstacle. To promote the event and cheer the people of the city, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani flagged off  the event and started run at 07:00 am.



“Vadodara seems to have matured with the running culture. For most of the runners this marathon was their personal best as they could reach the finishing line earlier compared to their previous marathons. The police department had made excellent arrangements in traffic management and the runners also found the condition of Vadodara Municipal Corporation roads very good – making their experience much better.” Said Tejal Amin, Chairperson of Vadodara Marathon. Fikre Bekel E Teepre, an international marathon runner bagged first prize for Full Marathon completing it in 2 hours 20 minutes and 12 seconds. Followed by Ganesh Anjelo completing in 2 hours 39 minutes and 53 seconds and third prize was awarded to Shrikant Yadav who completed the Full Marathon in 2 hours 43 minutes and 56 seconds.

On the other hand , Rahul Kumar was awarded first prize for completing Half Marathon in 1 hour 8 minutes and 6 seconds followed by Jagmal Ramchandran who completed in 1 hour 11 minutes and 40 seconds. Third prize was given to Varsha Rani who completed Half Marathon in 1 hour 22 minutes and 27 seconds. The event finally turned out to be a successful one and a great one. The Marathon finally concluded around 1 o' clock. Last participant to finish off the line was Mala Hunnati (Age : 55+ years) as per records.
